Bio
Advances in human health have pushed the human lifespan ever further. While this has led to an increase in the quantity of life, it is essential that we simultaneously increase the quality of life. The Gilchrist Lab uses biomaterials and in vitro cultures to develop strategies to prevent and rejuvenate aging. Through integrating stem cell engineering and materials design principles, the group investigates the fundamental mechanisms that contribute to cellular aging. Projects within the lab encompass hydrogel design, mechanical characterization of human tissues, gene editing of stem cells, metabolic analysis, and the translation to animal and human patients.
