Engineering on Tap: Ricardo Castro and the Science of Superheroes January 21

The College of Engineering’s popular Engineering on Tap series continues on Thursday, January 21 at 5 p.m. PST with a family-friendly virtual event led by materials science and engineering professor and associate dean for research and graduate studies Ricardo Castro.

Castro will bring you on a fascinating journey featuring the science and engineering behind superheroes. Castro is also father to two sons, ages 6 and 8, who join him in reliving this ludicrous world of technologies and powers to inspire a new generation of engineers.

Bring the kids and explore basic STEM concepts with interactive activities for the whole family. A list of supplies will be shared in advance with all who RSVP.

Castro holds a B.S. in molecular sciences and a Ph.D. in metallurgical and materials engineering from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. He joined UC Davis in 2009 and his research centers on the thermodynamic understanding of nanoceramics. He launched the popular “Materials Marvels: The Science of Superheroes” (EMS 2) course in 2015.

Engineering on Tap is a College of Engineering series that brings its leading researchers to share cutting-edge research being done at UC Davis in a casual setting for friends, alumni and colleagues. Since its inception in fall 2019, the series has featured research on space engineering, COVID-19, coffee and artificial intelligence.
